Kar: agreed. Seems that there are too many articles recently that were pulled and yet, Patrick DeHaan puts out lots of his own writings. My guess is that the radio and TV stints aren't offering much right now.

GasBuddy really should stop repeating this Blog. It serves no purpose, and hurts GasBuddy's credibility. Especially after some of the articles GasBuddy censors.

Why not? They represent longshoremen, not sailors.

Old News!
Also, not entirely accurate. If there were a shortage of US tonnage available to transport Product, a waiver would be issued to allow non American flag ships to do so temporarily.

Didn't we look at something like this yesterday? If we did the answer is still the same today, overnight has probably not changed any minds one way or the other.

I really don't see what any of that blog had to do with the Jones Act, but since it mentioned it lets go there. Does the Jones Act protect US shipping? Yes absolutely, but in so doing it also prevents sketchy "flags of convenience" ships from traveling up and down the US coasts and inland waters. These ships are not subject to the rigorous standard of the US Coast Guard, meaning their material condition may very well be substandard and the training of the crews less than acceptable (I know it is possible to get a Master's/Captain's license from some countries without much difficulty). Rescinding the Jones act isn't the answer to lower gas prices, cutting through all the red tape to allow new refineries to open and to allow new drilling both offshore and on land is the answer. So before you call for repealing the Jones Act ask yourself if you want cheaply made Chinese ships with poorly trained Chinese crews (if they would even stay on the ship and not simply run away into the first US port they reach) sailing up and down the coasts and rivers of America...I certainly don't.

The cost to drill, transport, and refine has changed little over the last 10 years. The cost increase is due to speculation, and the extra dollars being spent are lining some pockets with a lot of green.

"When Obama took office gas was $1.83 per gallon."
And we were at the bottom of a severe recession. We can have $1.84 gas again if you want another severe recession. Be careful what you wish for.
