Just watch the stock market and you will see what is going on when the market go up so does the price of gas and home heating oil and then it hit the food prices in the stores.

dlemma: in what ways has Obama been stomping on the Constitution?
Surely, it must occur to you that if the President were violating the Constitution, it would be seized upon as grounds for impeachment, and immediately taken up endlessly by the GOP, drumming the way to the Supreme Court as fast as their lawyers could march? Just as surely, for example, as if there were ever any substance to the birther arguments that the GOP would have made damn sure Obama was turfed before the ballot.
Just because you saw something on the Internet doesn't make it so.

The GOP doesn't need any reason; if it's not their way, it's wrong.

Feb 2001: $.87 per gallon, Feb 2006: $1.49 per gallon, Feb 2011: $3.59 per gallon. Is this a trend; or just the beginning ?

Gas prices are controlled by big oil and the speculators -- not by either party except for those politicians who support big oil.

toadNY - actually, Bush did NOT lift "the ban" on offshore drilling (there isn't one, although large areas - most of the East and West coasts and Florida waters are off-limits)- it was still in place and Obama had announced large parts of those bans would be lifted in March 2010, just before the BP spill put the brakes on that. Bush did suggest lifting the offshore drilling bans in July 2008, but never acted on it - in part, because within weeks oil prices had already fallen dramatically, as they continued to well into 2009.
Bush did release part of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (as has Obama once, in coordination with other nations), about 2 weeks prior to oil prices peaking in 2008. However, in neither case was there significant market change directly in response - remember, in '08, prices initially continued to rise. Instead, it was the implosion of global finance markets, already underway over a year, that put oil prices into a death spiral. Neither president can take much credit, or much blame for prices at the pump.
Opening up offshore drilling can contribute to greater oil self-sufficiency for the US, but will not make a significant difference in prices - the potential growth in supply is a drop in the bucket against world demand that is outstripping supply - and since it is a global market, US consumers pay world prices, whether the oil is domestic or imported.

All the republicans care about is getting back in power so they can finish wrecking the Government in order to discredit it. The damage they inflict on the nation while "governing" is acceptable to them because, in their world of alternate reality created by FOXNews, the end justifies the means.

Remember in 2008 Bush lifted the band on off shore drilling an oil dropped from $147.00 a barrel to $33.00 a barrel! So don't say the president can't control the price of oil!

I am quite surprised at some of the authors on this forum, it apperas like decorum and civility are not two of the qualities these folks are used to. When you are confronted with facts, you result to inflammatory comments and insult; see dollarwatcher from comrade Boehner's country for example, who refused to hold representatives from that part of the country responsible for all the economic woes they brought on the people of that region and America as a whole. He'll rather blame President Obama for all the industrial jobs that the GOP helped to flee the region, sometimes standing bye and doing nothing to encourage corporations to stay, and in some instances as we have found out through hearings in the US congress, they actually engineered the relocation of some of these companies overseas, to avoid paying taxes and due compensation to their employees. To show you how simplistic and naive some of these characters are,see dollarwatcher's comment on an important isssue as energy independence. All this person was able to come up with in response to presentation of facts is "Hey lekany, take a breath and get a life".What a shame that this is where we are as a nation, people wanting to discuss issues of national importance without doing the slightest due diligence, in termes of educating themselves. No wonder the people that are elected to represent us take us for granted, God help America!

Call your Congressional Representatives,TELL THEM to END BIG OIL subsidies, and ENACT LEGISLATION to force speculators to take deliveries on their oil future activity.Your see stabilization of crude prices in short order. The last time Congress started to murmur about speculators, all the sudden crude prices stabilized and speculators toned down this crap. These sacks of monkey excrement are back at it again.

Robert Gibbs (Obama's former press secretary and current polital advisor) recently said that Obama is looking into ways to increase oil production. Ha! Ha! Ha! Way too late. Besides, Obama has a record of saying one thing and doing another.
The man cannot be trusted!! He's primarily just an angry man.
It's all about re-election - and then watch out, if he gets re-elected. He won't care about what happens to the price of gasoline. He will cripple this country because he thinks we deserve to be crippled.

it is just another excuse from Republicans and Democrats, those lobbyists have some of the Congress and Senate in their backpocket. the oil companies should be penalized everytime ths price goes up everday, oneday is 3.35 the next its 3.45 the economy is still out of control.

You would think the GOP would be a little more careful about choosing their battle lines what with jumping up and down on the birth control issue and pooping all over themselves with it.

I find it hard to believe that many people are buying Obama's claim now that he has no control over gas prices. He stated his intention to do whatever he could to increase the price of gas, as a roundabout way to encourage Americans to choose greener cars. So was he lying then, or is he lying now? Either way, he's a liar.
A recent gasbuddy article said that the EPA -- which takes direction from Obama -- is getting ready to enact new regulations in the next month or two that will add another 20-30 cents or so to the cost of a gallon of gas.
If the government waived even some of the taxes and fees it collects, the price we pay for gas would fall dramatically. I do think Obama has a great deal of control over gas prices, and he wants them high. I think he's lying now, rather than when he admitted this before.

The Republicans raised the price of gas here in Columbus back in April of 2001 from $0.95 a gallon to where it is now. Before the Republicans throws stones they had better look back to who started the high cost of the gas. Both parties bad mouth each other and both carry the same blame. Bush started the gas prices to go up and Obama is keeping them there. Neither side is looking out for the American people.
